Anti Wrinkles (botulinum toxin)
Medical treatment for reducing wrinkles by using botulinum toxin (also known as "Botox®")
It is the most commonly used antiwrinkle treatment
Botulinum toxin has been used for the treatment of wrinkles, diminished smile expression and also for the treatment of some medical conditions such as hyperhidrosis (excessively “sweaty” hands or axillas).
The effect is almost immediate, visible within 24 hours following the injection and most noticeable in 3 days.
A reevaluation is necessary within 10 days when the effect is more stable so that any further retouch may be done before it settles completely (which happens in 20 to 30 days).
The effects last on average from 3 to 5 months, varying from person to person.
Botulinum toxin relaxes the muscles in which it is injected (for instance, those beneath the frown lines) promoting a smoother looking appearance.
Although botulinum toxin is widely known for its use in cosmetic medicine by reducing wrinkles and it is popular for its role in preventing deeper wrinkles to form and settle in.
People tend now to look for simpler, discrete, more practical and minimally invasive treatments with reduced or no downtime, something that botulinum toxin positively delivers.
Along with other products such as skinbooster (non-filler hyaluronic acid), Anti-Ox and multivitamin treatments and a wide range of discrete chemical peels, botulinum toxin becomes a powerful tool in gaining and maitainning a youthful look without requiring surgery.
Managing botulinum toxin treatments safely
One characteristic of botulinum toxin is that it must be preserved in refrigerated environment from producer to pharmacy to clinic to client.
This can be a challenge in order to maintain the best quality and properties of the toxin. If the chain of cold is broken, the toxin becomes inefective (and your investment along with it).
The exception to this rule is Bocouture® by Merz®, one of the three main high end labs producing botulinum toxin for aesthetic medicine use. Bocouture® can be safely stored at room temperature.
For this reason, our practice always uses Bocouture® for unscheduled walk-in procedures to make sure the patient gets the best and longest results out of each treatment session.
For experienced Clients whom may prefer one of the other brands it usually becomes available to use within 24 hours, being delievered "just in time" from professional storage with temperature control.
Quality. Safety. Effectiveness.
